When schools abruptly closed nationwide in mid-March, the continuity of learning for between 8.5 and 12 million was suddenly at risk. A lack of reliable Internet access and in some cases, computer hardware, currently prevented millions of students from participating in remote learning. However, resourceful school systems across the United States leapt in to help bridge the Digital Divide for their students.
During this virtual event, FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel and a diverse panel of education leaders from a cross-section of school systems will discuss:
Their viewpoints on closing the “homework gap”
Strategies for ensuring all students have the resources to continue their education in a remote environment
What they believe Washington’s policymakers need to know about closing the Digital Divide
Participants:
Dr. Lundy Brantley, Superintendent, Neshoba Central Schools, Mississippi
Emmanuel Stewart, Principal, Dr. George Washington Carver Academic Elementary School, San Francisco, California
Carey Cunningham, School Administrator, St. Louis Public Schools, Missouri
Marty Gutierrez, 8th Grade Math Teacher, Silver Hills Middle School, Westminster, Colorado
