NCTET has a proven record as a powerful network of public and private sector organizations, successful community builder, respected convenor, and influential resource on educational technology policy, practice, and equity.

NCTET’s Council Members are well-connected and respected leaders representing the most influential  organizations in the K-12 education community. Not only are they leaders within their organizations, but they are also recognized nationally and internationally for their contributions to the fields of education and technology. Our members appear regularly on distinguished panels, maintain massive grassroots and social networking footprints, and possess strong connections to Congress, Executive Agencies and the White House, state capitals, and other key organizations of interest to the ed tech community.

Influential Resource for Policy Development

Launched in 1993 to help policymakers develop sound federal educational technology programs, NCTET continues to bring together influential leaders from the public and private sectors to advocate for continued investment in technologies that deliver equitable educational opportunities for all learners.

NCTET’s activities include:

  • Hands-on ed tech demonstrations on Capitol Hill to inform members of Congress and their staff about the impact of ed tech programs in the classroom, with the most recent event highlighting how rural schools benefit from ed tech.

  • Hosting the NCTET Inaugural Ball every four-years since 1997. In 2022, the NCTET Ball attracted more than 250 leaders from non-profit education associations, industry groups, and the federal government. The event featured a pre-Ball roundtable on the Future of Education post-COVID and awards were presented to prominent policymakers including Sen. Edward Markey (D-MA) and FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel.

  • Advocacy efforts to spotlight the importance of extending the promise of education technology and home and school broadband access to the entire country. This advocacy work encouraged the federal government’s adoption and funding of key programs, including the E-Rate, the Emergency Connectivity Fund, and Title IV-A of the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Successful Community Builder

NCTET unites under a single banner: private corporations, K-12 ed tech organizations, and broad-based K-12 associations and groups committed to digital learning and educational equity for all learners. NCTET fosters a unique dialogue among members of the ed tech community through:

  • Quarterly NCTET Council meetings

  • Quadrennial NCTET Inaugural Balls

  • Capitol Hill demonstrations

  • NCTET webinars

  • Quarterly newsletters

  • Lunch & Learns

  • NCTET Community Builder Awards to a diverse and bipartisan cross-section of leaders who have made a difference in education.

Gateway to the Federal Government

NCTET advocates directly to federal policymakers – via letter and direct meetings – in support of continuing federal investments in ed tech and home and school broadband access. Through this work, NCTET provides its Council members with a window into state and federal governments, access to policymakers and an opportunity to advocate at the federal level for sound ed tech policy and continued funding.
