About the NCTET Ball

The NCTET Ball is a cocktail style affair where 250 of the nation’s technology and education leaders gather to honor individuals that have made significant contributions to the education technology field.

Prior Community Builder honorees include: the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA), FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, George Lucas (Lucasfilms and Edutopia), Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Linda Darling Hammond (Stanford University), US Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (iCivics), and John Gage (Director of the Science Office, Sun Microsystems). 

Our 2020 Community Builder Awardees were honored at our Post-Inaugural Reception on January 21, 2021 and they include:

Government: Gov. Jared Polis (D-CO) and Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Nonprofit: Sylvia Acevedo, former Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts USA and Sal Khan, Founder, Khan Academy
Corporate: Google and Kajeet

NCTET honored its 2022 Founders Awards recipients John Cradler and Kathy Hurley at the ball for their significant contributions to NCTET and the greater educational technology community. Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, and Representative Grace Meng (D-NY-6) also received awards for their work to secure funding for the Emergency Connectivity Act, which brings broadband connectivity and educational devices to schools and libraries throughout the country.


The Ball was hosted the evening of May 12, 2022 at the International Spy Museum just steps away from Capitol Hill. Prior to the Ball, NCTET hosted four pre-Ball gatherings for our Sponsors and Community Partners.

On May 11, 2022, NCTET hosted a Policy Roundtable on the future of education. The program featured opening remarks by FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, followed by a discussion between USDE Office of Educational Technology Deputy Director Kristina Ishmael, 2021 NASSP Digital Principal of the Year Cindy Sholtys-Cromwell, Alexandria City Superintendent Dr. Gregory C Hutchings, Jr, and the Hogan Report’s Kevin Hogan.
